    2018 Gratitude Challenge

    The Gift of Gratitude

”Be in a state of gratitude for everything that shows up in your life. Be thankful for the storms as well as the smooth sailing. What is the lesson or gift in what you are experiencing right now? Find your joy not in what’s missing in your life but in how you can serve.” -Dr. Wayne Dyer

In The Power of Intention, Dr. Wayne Dyer talks a lot about gratitude. It’s a common theme in many successful people’s lives. The more thankful people are, the more seems to come their way. My father is one of the most giving people I know. I cannot even begin to count how much money he has given to friends and family, but every time he goes to the casino, he wins! Why is that? Is he just lucky? I don’t think so. I think karma is playing a role. He allows all he is given to flow through him so the Universe keeps funneling more through him.

His is not an isolated case. Look at some of the richest people in the world, they are also the biggest givers. Or, perhaps it’s the other way around: the biggest givers are some of the richest people in the world.

    How to Foster Gratitude

In my journal, I have a gratitude section. I make a point of listing the things I am grateful for everyday. No matter what is going on in my life, there are things to be greatful for. I make a point of listing three every morning and three every night. I also try to capture a few throughout the day. Why?

Well, this quote sums it up for me:

”What you focus on grows, what you think about expands, and what you dwell upon determines your destiny.” -Robin Sharma

By keeping my self in a constant state of gratitude, I open myself up to the flow of the universe. If I can keep that flow going, great things begin to happen. I start to see blessings in everything. When that happens to its fullest, not even the most horrible circumstances can affect me.

”Forces beyond your control can take away everything you possess except one thing, your freedom to choose how you will respond to the situation.” Victor E. Frankl

Gratitude is the key to lasting happiness no matter what circumstance come into your life. Gratitude is the key to a good and worthwhile life. So why wouldn’t we take Gratitude seriously?

    The Human Condition

We have opposition to happiness that exists innately in our being. The human mind was built to respond to threats. It is what kept us alive and evolving long after many other species petered out. The media plays on this innate human process everyday. Have you ever noticed that almost all news is bad news? That has nothing to do with the truth. In fact, we are living in the safest time in human history, on every imaginable level. There is less disease, war, violence, and poverty than ever before. But you wouldn’t know that when watching the news. So why do they perpetuate it?

If you don’t believe me, check out this post on a Harvard study that backs this up.

The newsmakers knows that if there is a threat, your brain is hardwired to know more. By keeping the news bad, you keep tuning in and they keeps making ad money. If they tell you everything is fine, you’ll change the channel. They can’t afford that.

Gratitude is the antidote to this kind of thinking. When we are grateful for all we have and all we have access to, the world suddenly beings to look brighter, happier, and more ripe with opportunity than ever before.

    Why Journaling Gratitude Matters

When we keep a record of our gratefulness, we can look back, during moments of weakness, and see just how much we have to be grateful for. There is never a lack of things to be grateful for, but sometimes we can’t see the forrest for the trees. A list of gratefulness helps us to plug back into the the high-energy thinking of gratefulness and it opens our mind’s eye to all that is great and wonderful in the world.

    Gratefulness Challenge

This year (2018), I’ve set a goal of collecting and listing 1,000 things to be grateful for. I’m keeping the list in my journal. Want to join me and see if we can come up with 100,000? That would be amazing wouldn’t it? Meet me on our Facebook page and let’s do this! Let’s make 2018 the most grateful and wonderful year in human history. I know that we can do it together.
